Tech Lead

Description

Our client is looking for a Tech Lead to drive the tech architecture behind their high-scale advertising platform. In this role, you’ll lead the technical direction for core microservices, APIs, and data pipelines that power campaign creation, optimization, and real-time analytics for millions of users.
The position combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership: shaping architecture, mentoring engineers, and working closely with product and business teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and performant adtech solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own and evolve the backend architecture for the demand solutions and advertising dashboard, built primarily in Go, within a microservices environment
  • Design, build, and maintain reliable and scalable microservices that integrate with the dashboard (React / TypeScript) and other internal systems
  • Use event buses and streaming technologies (e.g. Kafka, SQS/SNS, Kinesis) to ensure reliable, asynchronous communication between services and to process billions of daily API events
  • Work with modern databases such as DynamoDB and columnar data stores (e.g. Druid, ClickHouse) to deliver low-latency APIs and support complex analytical queries
  • Design, maintain, and improve Druid queries and data flows that power fast and insightful analysis within the advertising dashboard
  • Define and maintain external partner APIs that allow advertisers to configure campaigns, upload creatives (images, videos), and access reporting and spend data
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers: provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and foster a strong engineering culture focused on quality, performance, and ownership
  • Collaborate closely with product, business, and data teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions and ensure the platform supports growth objectives
  • Take an active role in architectural decision-making, long-term technical roadmap planning, and continuous improvement of the platform’s reliability and cost-efficiency
  • Champion engineering best practices (testing, observability, documentation, CI/CD) and help the team move fast while maintaining stability.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, including several years in lead roles (e.g. Tech Lead, Software Architect, Engineering Lead) in fast-moving product environments
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Golang in a professional backend context (microservices, APIs, distributed systems)
  • Extensive experience with streaming systems (e.g. Kafka, Kinesis) and columnar/analytical databases (e.g. Druid, ClickHouse, Snowflake), including data aggregation and query optimization
  • Proven track record of technical leadership: making architectural decisions, guiding cross-functional teams, and delivering high-impact backend systems at scale
  • Background in high-volume data processing and building systems that handle large-scale event data with low latency
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructures such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud (AWS preferred), including managed services and cost-efficient architecture patterns
  • Experience leading and developing engineers: setting expectations, providing feedback, managing performance, and supporting career growth
  • Ability to bridge business and technology, comfortable working with product and commercial stakeholders, clarifying requirements, and aligning solutions with business goals
  • Excellent communication skills in English and a collaborative mindset suited for an international, cross-functional environment

NICE TO HAVE

  • Previous experience in adtech, martech, or other high-throughput, low-latency domains (e.g. real-time bidding, recommendations, analytics platforms)
  • Hands-on experience with React / TypeScript frontends and dashboards for analytics or campaign management
  • Knowledge of hybrid cloud / self-hosted architectures (e.g. Kubernetes, Apache ecosystem) and cost-optimization strategies at scale
  • Familiarity with A/B testing, experimentation, and data-driven feature rollout in product development.

WHAT THEY OFFER

  • Employment contract in Germany
  • Work-Life Balance: 2 remote days per week, 30 vacation days, 3 weeks per year of remote work, flexible working hours, a dog-friendly office
  • Relocation Package: Visa & legal support, relocation bonus, reimbursement of German Classes costs, and more
  • Physical & Mental Health Package: In-house gym with a personal trainer, various classes like Yoga with expert teachers & free of charge access to EAP (Employee Assistance Program) to support your mental health and well being
  • Education Package: Opportunities to boost your professional development with courses and training directly connected to your career goals
