Senior Narrative Designer

Description

We’re looking for a Senior Narrative Designer to join our client’s team and help define the narrative heart of a new category of narrative-driven RPGs. You will design role-playing quests, branching encounters, and dialogue that bring the world and its systems to life for different types of players.

This is a rare, career-defining opportunity for someone who lives and breathes RPGs and tabletop storytelling, and wants to push what “choice matters” really means in games.

You’ll collaborate directly with the company’s founder and CEO, shaping the narrative vision and building the foundations for how stories are created, structured, and experienced.

If you are a worldbuilder, a systems thinker, and a passionate role-player who loves designing adventures that can go in many directions, this role is for you.

This position is open to candidates with native or near-native English proficiency, based in Europe, the UK, the US, or Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and write role-playing quests, missions, and encounters with strong player agency and multiple possible outcomes.
  • Create branching narrative structures where choices have clear consequences and lead to different paths, outcomes, and play experiences.
  • Write high-quality, character-driven dialogue that reflects different playstyles and responds to player decisions.
  • Translate tabletop RPG experience and thinking into digital narrative design, creating adventures that can unfold in many directions instead of following a single linear script.
  • Build and maintain the game’s world, lore, factions, locations, and narrative themes, ensuring consistency and depth across all content.
  • Design situations and scenarios that enable players to decide what they want to do, supporting a wide range of motivations and playstyles.
  • Work with systemic narrative concepts such as traits, objectives, world states, and relationships, making sure they’re reflected in encounters and dialogue.
  • Create clear narrative documentation, including narrative bibles, encounter briefs, branching flowcharts, and character sheets to support future team growth.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience writing role-playing quests, missions, encounters, and dialogue for games, tabletop RPGs.
  • Deep familiarity with tabletop RPGs – either through commercial work or extensive personal experience as a player or Game Master.
  • Strong track record with branching narrative or “choice matters” experiences on story-rich or RPG titles.
  • Ability to think like a tabletop designer: anticipating different player types, planning adventures that can go in many directions, and building worlds that invite experimentation.
  • Strong understanding of systemic narrative concepts such as traits, objectives, and world-building as a framework, not just linear storytelling.
  • A portfolio that clearly shows what you wrote: quests, encounters, dialogue samples, narrative systems, or tabletop material.
  • High level of creativity and curiosity, with a hands-on attitude and willingness to learn rather than relying solely on years of experience.
  • Openness and enthusiasm toward using AI as a tool to improve workflow and narrative quality.
  • Native English speaker or native-level English proficiency

WHAT THEY OFFER

  • A “once in a career” role shaping the foundation of a new type of game engine
  • Security and stability in a startup backed by strong funding
  • Stock option package
  • Fully remote setup with flexible working hours
  • Work directly with a CTO founder on architecture and design
  • Work in a small, 15-person team where your contributions truly matter
