Senior Gameplay Engineer

Description

A mid-sized, veteran-led game development studio is looking for a Senior Gameplay Engineer to help build the next phase of their flagship tactical shooter and support the technology powering future projects.

If you enjoy solving complex gameplay problems, working at the intersection of systems, AI, and mission design, and want your engineering work to shape player experience directly, this role could be a great fit.

You’ll join an experienced team known for highly ambitious, emotionally impactful shooters grounded in real-world scenarios.

With the production roadmap stabilised and long-term funding secured, the team is scaling thoughtfully and responsibly.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work side-by-side with mission designers and AI designers to create, refine, and debug gameplay systems in Unreal Engine.
  • Develop efficient methods for generating encounters, events, and objectives using both C++ and Blueprints to deliver dynamic and emotionally engaging player experiences.
  • Analyse mission, AI, and gameplay behaviour to identify bottlenecks or undesired outcomes – then address them directly in code.
  • Optimise mission components for smooth operation in networked multiplayer environments.
  • Participate in playtests, observe player behaviour, and translate insights into actionable improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams across physics, audio, networking, and UI to ensure tightly integrated, high-quality gameplay features.
  • Contribute to code reviews and uphold high engineering standards.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 7+ years of professional video game industry experience.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and visual scripting (ideally Unreal Blueprints).
  • Experience shipping or developing gameplay features for at least one networked game.
  • Understanding of mission design principles and strong instincts for designing compelling mission flow.
  • Affinity for tactical first-person shooters and systemic, reactive gameplay.
  • Comfort working in an iterative, fast-paced environment.
  • Ownership mindset – you’re driven to solve problems end-to-end.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience collaborating closely with mission or AI designers.
  • Background working with procedural generation or systemic level design tools.
  • A strong interest in tactical or simulation-heavy games grounded in realism.

WHAT THEY OFFER

  • A hybrid culture, remote-friendly team spread across several countries, with the option to work on-site if desired.
  • Flexible PTO with trust-based scheduling.
  • Comprehensive benefits package (for applicable regions).
  • Profit-sharing once the game ships – the team earns when the game earns.
  • High visibility and impact – your work directly shapes a widely followed, globally recognised project.
