We’re now looking for a Lead/Principal AI Engineer to join our client’s team and architect the narrative physics engine – the core system powering a new category of narrative-driven RPGs. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity for someone who combines deep technical expertise with a passion for storytelling. You’ll work directly with the CTO, shaping the AI foundations that will redefine how stories are created and experienced in games. RESPONSIBILITIES
Define and architect the narrative physics engine, breaking down stories into systemic, replicable mechanics
Collaborate directly with the CTO (20+ years coding, 7 startups, multiple exits) on architecture and design
Lead the design of AI/LLM-driven systems for storytelling, procedural content, and adaptive gameplay
Develop frameworks to model narrative tempo, character traits, and story dynamics
Integrate AI-assisted workflows across the game development process
Ensure AI systems are ethical, performant, and scalable within real-time engines
Optional leadership path – your main role centers around architecture and system design
REQUIREMENTS
10+ years of experience building AI systems, with at least 3+ years in the game dev industry
You are a systemic thinker – able to dissect stories, mechanics, and design principles into structured systems
You have a passion for RPGs and storytelling – essential for success in this role
AI/LLM experience (at least 2 years) – with hands-on practical applications
Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with AI/ML libraries
Deep understanding of gameplay AI systems: behavior trees, utility systems, GOAP, state machines, etc.
Hands-on experience with game engines such as Unreal Engine (Blueprints & C++) or Unity (C#)
Detail-oriented, structured, and able to architect complex systems
Familiarity with generative AI (text, image, audio), LLMs, and reinforcement learning
Experience collaborating in cross-functional game teams (designers, narrative, animation)
Ability to mentor teams, set technical vision, and manage AI development timelines
NICE TO HAVE
Experience with player modelling, matchmaking algorithms, or real-time in-game
personalization
Background in procedural storytelling or AI-driven narrative generation
Contributions to shipped AAA or high-profile indie titles
Familiarity with MLOps workflows for live game environments
Published research, open-source contributions, or conference talks in game AI or related fields
