DESCRIPTION A remote-first startup is seeking a Lead Gameplay Programmer who will take the helm in designing and implementing the core gameplay systems that drive the ultimate open-world multiplayer sandbox. With your expertise in Unreal Engine 5 and C++, you will lead international team shaping the future of multiplayer gaming.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leading core gameplay system development (movement, physics, AI, player interactions).
Working with Lua scripters to integrate Unreal Engine 5 tools for game creators.
Optimizing multiplayer systems for performance and large-scale synchronization.
Writing modular, reusable code to enhance scalability.
Mentoring gameplay programmers to maintain high-quality standards.
Partnering with UI/UX teams to create seamless interfaces.
Debugging and optimizing to resolve performance issues.
Staying up-to-date with Unreal Engine 5 advancements to implement new tech.
REQUIREMENTS
2+ years of experience in a lead programming role.
Strong expertise in Unreal Engine (preferably UE5), Blueprints, and C++.
Deep understanding of multiplayer networking and client/server architecture.
Track record of shipping multiplayer gameplay mechanics in released titles.
Experience with AI, physics, and player interaction systems (e.g., inventories, in-game economies).
Leadership and communication skills for guiding remote teams.
Ability to write clean, modular, scalable code.
Familiarity with GTA-style open-world or sandbox game mechanics.
NICE TO HAVE
Experience with user-generated content platforms or creator tools.
Expertise in optimizing large, open-world multiplayer environments.
Familiarity with role-playing mechanics, progression systems, or in-game economies.
Passion for gaming and creating tools that empower a global community of creators.
Experience with Lua APIs.
