Unity Developer
GameName LLC is looking for a Unity Developer to help build an animated, non-verbal choose-your-own-adventure game. Think of it like an FMV-style game, but instead of live-action footage the experience is told entirely through fully animated sequences, expressive characters, and stylized audiovisual storytelling. Theres no dialogue, subtitles, or text-based narration, just action, choices, and charm.
Youll work closely with a Narrative Designer, Artist, and Audio Engineer to bring these sequences to life in Unity. You’ll implement branching logic, transitions, scene management, and custom playback systems using existing Unity tools, third-party assets, and custom additions you develop as needed.
This is a part-time, remote role. It would be a great fit for developers early in their careers with relevant experience, or more experienced candidates looking for a supplemental income.
Responsibilities
- Implement branching sequence logic and scene flow in Unity
- Handle playback, transitions, and conditional logic for animation-based storytelling
- Collaborate with the team to ensure choices are readable and impactful through visuals and sound
- Integrate third-party Unity assets to streamline development
- Support UI functionality for menus, choices, and light user interaction
- Work iteratively based on feedback from creative leads and designers
- Help ensure story sequences feel smooth, responsive, and emotionally clear
- Maintain good self-QA practices and ensure the project is optimized for lower-end platforms
Qualifications
- 1-2+ years of Unity (C#) experience or a strong portfolio showcasing relevant interactive content
- Experience working with Unity animation systems, timelines, and/or cinematic sequences
- Understanding of how to structure branching logic and transitions between scenes or clips
- Ability to follow direction and collaborate closely with creative leads
- Good communication skills and comfort working in a remote, async-friendly team
- (Less experienced candidates may be considered if they demonstrate practical skills, adaptability, and a portfolio that shows strong potential)
Bonus Points
- Prior experience with CYOA, FMV, or animation-driven storytelling games (familiarity with text-based narrative games is also a pro).
- Familiarity with Unitys video/animation tools or similar systems
- Experience with relevant Unity tools/assets (Adventure Creator, Charles Engine FMV, interactive novel editor tools, etc.)
- A strong eye for audiovisual pacing, clarity, and emotional storytelling (storyboarding, animation, and similar experience helpful).
- Experience integrating and managing third-party Unity assets
- Experience with text-based interactive fiction tools (Ink, Yarn Spinner, etc.) is also a solid bonus point, demonstrating understanding of interactive fiction content creation, though we don’t plan to use them directly for this project since there’s no text, just audio and visuals.
Contract Terms
- Type: Independent Contractor Agreement (ICA)
- Hours: Part-Time (10-20 hrs/week), flexible schedule
- Rate: $20-35/hr USD, depending on experience and skills
- Trial Period: Initial one month evaluation phase
- Contract Duration: Project-based, with potential for extension
Perks & Culture
- Remote work with flexible scheduling
- Unique, highly visual project with strong creative direction
- Small, collaborative team focused on quality and charm
- Supported by a major content creator with built-in marketing reach
- Opportunity to grow with a series-driven project and gain experience in interactive storytelling
