Lead Unity Game Developer

GameName LLC is hiring a Lead Unity Game Developer to help us build our next game: a first-person 3D action-horror-comedy title with networked multiplayer. Youll be joining the project from day one, working closely with the core team to define the technical direction, select tools and networking frameworks, and shape the gameplay foundation.

You’ll collaborate with a small, talented team that includes a game designer, artist, audio engineer, and QA playtester. Later, you’ll help onboard and work alongside 1-2 additional developers as they wrap up work on another project. Our parent company, Socksfor1, provides significant marketing muscle and networking to support the game’s success.

This is a remote, full-time contract role (40 hrs/week) with flexible hours and preferred overlap with U.S. time zones. It may evolve into a salaried position in the future. Youll report directly to the Studio Head and play a key role in bringing this weird, wild game to life!

  • Define and implement the games tech stack and help select a modern networking solution (Unity Netcode, Photon Fusion 2, Coherence, etc.)

  • Integrate third-party Unity assets to accelerate development
  • Collaborate with the design team to translate creative ideas into fun, interactive systems

  • Demonstrated ability to build and deliver complete gameplay systems or prototypes
  • Solid grasp of multiplayer networking and online game systems
  • Experience with Unity URP and 3D game development workflows
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fully remote environment
  • Less experienced candidates may be considered if they demonstrate practical skills, adaptability, and a portfolio that shows strong potential.

Bonus Points

  • Hands-on experience with the latest networking frameworks, such as Unity Netcode, Photon Fusion 2, Coherence, or possibly others
  • Past work on procedural generation, roguelikes, horror, psychological horror, or action-comedy games
  • Experience using Unitys advanced features, profiling tools, and performance optimization techniques
  • Familiarity with integrating modular tools and systems into Unity projects
  • Comfort with cross-discipline collaboration and small team environments

Contract Terms

  • Type: Independent Contractor Agreement (ICA)
  • Hours: Full-Time (40 hrs/week), flexible schedule with preferred U.S. time zone overlap
  • Rate: $30-50/hr USD, depending on experience, skill, and location
  • Contract Duration: 1-year agreement, with extension based on project needs
  • Trial Period: Initial 30-day evaluation phase

Perks & Culture

  • 100% remote flexibility with an async-friendly workflow

  • Opportunity to help define a new, original game from the ground up
